Joss und Cast sind bei NY Comic Con dabei

Die von 6.-8. Februar stattfindet:

NRAMA: Any additional new guests you can privilege Newsarama readers with being the first to hear about?

LF: Depending on when you publish this, I've already mentioned Joss Whedon for the first time. You want more than that! Joss and members of the cast of Dollhouse will be on hand, and you heard it here first!

Edit: Details sind da.

An exclusive sneak peek at the first act of Joss Whedon's highly-anticipated premiere episode of Dollhouse scheduled to launch on Friday, February 13th on FOX. Dollhouse stars Eliza Dushku, Tahmoh Penikett, Fran Kranz, Dichen Lachman, Enver Gjokaj, Harry Lennix, and Olivia Williams. Mini posters will be distributed to all in attendance!

"Yes." (Zack Whedon)

Harry Lennix im Interview

Sehr nett:

Lennix compared the expansive, pristine set of the "Dollhouse" where the actives live to a cathedral in a way. "When I go into it every time I'm actually filled with awe. It has a kind of reverential quality. At the same time, the goings on in the 'Dollhouse' are almost antithetical to what would happen in the church. But there's still an ethic that underlies, I think ... everybody who's essentially not an 'Active' There is a kind of quest for what is ultimately human, what actually is it to grapple with these questions -- when do you actually have free will? When do you actually get to make the decision of what is right and wrong, and are those ever objective, universal truths? So I think that, while it is not a church, the questions that are dealt with are equally humanistic and almost, to some extent, getting to what it is to be divine, what it is to live in a kind of alternate consciousness to our normal human selves.

Werbung!

"The show is awesome." ist wohl wirklich die Zusammenfassung. Sie drehen grad Espensons "Briar Rose".

SPOILER - 1x13 - Casting Call

Highlights:

Joss via stellit:

Joss Whedon joined the cast via satellite in Boston to answer critic’s questions about his new Fox series “Dollhouse” during the show’s panel at the Television Critics Association’s Winter Press Tour.

Franz und Tahmoh über den neue Piloten:

Actor Fran Kranz said, “It wasn’t too difficult for me. I never saw it as doing another pilot. I never saw it as a step backwards, but a step forward.”

“Joss looked at it as an opportunity,” the show’s Tahmoh Penikett said. “It was a warm up to working with Joss and everyone. It kinda warmed you up for new thing. We took it a slightly different direction.”

Joss über die stand-alone-vs.-Mythologie-Frage:

“The first five are all very much standalones. The sixth gets into working of the dollhouse, and the back 13 get into mythology.”

(Was wohl heißen dürfte, dass sein "Man on the Street" besagtes 1x06 werden wird...)

Joss über Freitag:

“I had a bad experience once on a Friday. At the same time I knew that was just sort of a instinctive reaction to what’s happened before,” he said. “I’m excited to be matched with ‘Terminator’. This was a different agenda. It’s about rolling out 13 episodes and letting people come to the show and grow with it. Ultimately, I feel much more comfortable there than Mondays.”

Tahmoh über BSG und Dollhouse

Sehr nett:

Kevin Reilly bespricht Dollhouse-Freitag

>> On placing "Dollhouse" on Friday nights: "Joss Whedon does a certain kind of show he’s right tin the zone in on that ... some other scheduling scenarios there could be enormous pressure on it ... we have a very compatible lead in on that with 'Sarah Connor'... we’re going to let the show play out for 13 episodes ... if we can do some business there it will be a great thing for the future."

ETA: Hier auch noch was von ihm:

•Dollhouse, Joss Whedon's new show, has undergone reshoots and rewrites, but Reilly now says the show is where he wants it to be creatively. "Joss has done his thing," he said. "I want him to just do his show. We had a couple of false starts, and then, frankly, we just left him alone."

Early buzz from critics has been lukewarm at best, but Reilly puts it in the eyes of viewers. "You guys should judge for yourself," he said. "Joss is a creative guy, and he does what he believes in. Hopefully you guys believe in it, too." Dollhouse debuts Feb. 13, following Terminator.

•Fringe, one of the few hits of the fall, has not yet been picked up for a second season, but fans should not worry. "I would anticipate it would be," Reilly said. The show has generated good if not stellar ratings but has a loyal cult following. Fringe returns with new episodes on Jan. 20 and will air Tuesdays at 9 p.m.

•The Friday Night Death Slot. Reilly acknowledges that Terminator and Dollhouse have a curse to break on Friday nights, the slot that killed shows such as Firefly and Freakylinks. "Well, that's been the case for a lot of shows, but there've also been a lot of shows that were kind of buried there for a reason," Reilly said. "I think these are two worthy shows, so we'll see what happens."

The "Dollhouse" pilot is a bit muddled -- it feels like a puzzle that wasn't put together quite right. Maybe that's because the first episode wasn't really meant to be the first one at all. But even though the pilot (9/8 C Feb. 13 on Fox) is flawed, it has major potential. The best thing is that since the time I've watched it, I've been thinking about the show a lot -- always a good sign -- and I'm excited to see what comes next.

Having just watched the first episode, this strikes me as a very fair, and intelligent, review. (Although I wouldn't use the word "muddled"). I wasn't blown away by DH. But I was intrigued, sufficiently to want to watch further - and I've been scrupulously steering clear of all spoilers/plot details for this show. It didn't zing, as my first episode of Buffy did, or move me in the way the Firefly pilot did, but it was intelligent, clearly has depth, and features some great characters and performances. I say yes. :-)

Last week I was bored and had an idea for an episode of Dollhouse. With a law exam to study for today, I smartly chose to spend two days writing this Dollhouse idea up as a pseudo-spec. I sent it to a friend -- who shall remain nameless and loveless-- late last week and spent the weekend studying for this exam and today I come online to find this and this.

Sorry to anyone who read it thinking it was real. I didn't really intend it to be seen by this many people -- especially this side of me having a chance to rewrite it. It was hardly polished, as io9 didn't hesitate to point out. Also: only wrote it based on the original "Echo" script and the promos -- there were no hours of mulling over everything in preparation. I've slipped into defensive-writer mode.

This said thanks to those who read it and said it could have been an actual episode. That's quite a big compliment.

For those of you who want to read my un-polished first draft: ta da. It's probably the first piece of Dollhouse fanfic.

And a decent one at that.

TV squad rezensiert "Ghost"

Und zwar positiv, mit Lorbeeren für Eliza:

The show has a strong cast and Eliza Dushku is terrific in her role. The Dollhouse set reminds me a bit of the Wolfram and Hart offices from Angel.

The episode was okay as a stand-alone, but not great. As mentioned, I don't think anybody should judge a Joss Whedon production by the first episode. Whedon weaves an intricate web and it usually takes a few episodes to get involved. I'm looking forward to the journey.

Watch out for "The Dolls":

In a warmer climate, the buzzed about "Dollhouse," from Joss Whedon, is shooting on Zuma Beach in Malibu today. Debuting on Fox next month, it's a sci-fi series about a group called "The Dolls" who have had their memories wiped clean so they can take on any number of new personas.

The funny thing is you have these people creating this show - Joss, Jed, Maurissa - who have created the biggest Internet TV show ever (and Dr Horrible really is just that - HUGE DVD sales), and they're on a TV show which has an online presence which consists of:

a) Posters of Eliza with her nipples out.
b) A video of Joss 'sexy dancing' which might plague him at Comic-Con '09.
c) The "paper doll" things on the "official fan site".

That's the entire new media marketing effort thus far. I know, I know, I'm not trying to personally rag on those who work at FOX - seriously, I'm not - but come on. This will actually be hilarious in a years time, but right now I'm looking at it thinking... Well. Just, d'oh. Big Media moves slow.

The Masterplan

Über u.a. Dollhouse:

Is Dollhouse as bad as we are hearing?

Joss Whedon has an unbelievably loyal fan base, and he really knows how to write to that fan base. I expect that they're going to be there. They're going to enjoy his show. One of the things about airing on Friday night, a show is not expected to have those boffo ratings.

So you're not burying him in the Friday graveyard?

No, I'm not burying him in the Friday graveyard. I'm giving him a little bit of a reprieve by being on Friday.

Sci Fi Wire interviewte auch Eliza

Vor ein paar Tagen. Hier drüben:

You've probably read some of the reviews and heard the buzz, positive and negative, about the show. Does any of that come through or do you try to screen it out?

Dushku: I'm proud of what we're doing, and we ... are doing what we wanted to do and telling the stories we wanted to tell. ... There's been pressure since the day we announced it, and there's been naysayers since the day we announced it, and, at this point, ... I just can't wait for the show to get on the air and for people to see it. ... Regardless of ... the hype and what people are saying, why don't people see it, and then they can decide what they feel? But I feel confident, ... because it's on the page, recorded on the stage, ... and it's working. And we're having a great time. ... Each episode is more and more intricate, and the story's unfolding. ...

I brought the first episodes home to my family to watch over the holidays, and you know what, they were freaking out. ... They were more proud and more psyched about this than most anything that [I've done]. ...

Meldungsübersicht

Weil wieder so viel los ist:
  • salon.com ist very begeistert von "Ghost":If you take off the rose-colored, Joss Whedon-loving glasses, of course, you'll notice that the first episode of "Dollhouse" is a little bit dorky and uneven at times. But Eliza Dushku fills that "Buffy"-esque dazed-but-sharp babe quotient nicely, and I guarantee that after the first episode, you'll want to see more, more, more, more, as soon as you can. Personally, I can't wait for this show to kick into high gear. Weird, witty, smart, suspenseful, intense? This is what we spent the fall TV season hungering for.
  • The Notorious I.G. ist auch voll dabei:Dollhouse has a very interesting premise that takes time to understand. Once a viewer does, it's worth it. Joss may be a bit rusty about making TV after making a movie, some comic books, and an internet musical. Still, this Dollhouse is a good way to spend a Friday night.
  • Werbung in Flugzeugen!

Comics? Wirklich?

Scott Allie (Buffy Season Eight- und Serenity-Editor bei Dark Horse, also Whedon's Comic-Organisator) meint hier zu Dollhouse-Comics:

I've been talking to Joss about Dollhouse comics since he first told me about the project. He said it didn't feel right for a comic yet, but that as the show established its identity we might do a book.

Neues Promo-Bild (Komplett-Cast!)

Yummy:

Edit: Und ein, zwei recht fragwürdig kleidungslose Eliza-Promos gibt's obendrauf.

TV.com rezensiert "Ghost"

Und zwar fair:

Dollhouse's pilot isn't going to blow away anyone who isn't a die-hard Joss Whedon (creator of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Firefly) fan, but the potential for a very strong season is definitely here. In fact, some Joss fans may not even like it right away as most of Joss' trademarks are absent--there's almost no witty back-and-forth dialogue and the show seems to be exhibit Joss' more serious side (a stark contrast from his last project, Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog).

She can be anyone, except herself

Dear Dollversers,

The promotion has begun. The first trailer is out there on the airwaves on FOX now. No, the internets does not yet have a copy, but you'll know it when you see Echo doing something with a cherry. It features footage from the first few episodes. There are various trailers which will begin to phase on air as the air date gets closer.

There are also, for those of you who read (which, I suspect, is all of you) newspapers adverts starting to roll out.

5 weeks to go!

Oh yeah.

A script review

The sexy confident walk

Setting up the Dollhouse

'Integration' describes the elusive stage in the treatment of multiple-personality disorder where the patient combines the various traits of their 'cast of characters' into one cohesive and continuous personality, an ascension out of the darkness and confusion of insanity into the life-challenges that the patient had been fleeing before. In terms of the general culture of Whedon's target audience, the 'hook' in Dollhouse is surely the struggle to be accepted (and presumably appreciated) for who one really is; people have the right to reinvent themselves, but doing so on an ad hoc and daily basis is chaos and self-negation.

But that's a mission-statement aimed at broader demographics than those which likely interest Joss Whedon. I can't help but feel that there's a reason the show is called Dollhouse and not Toy House. I'm not convinced by the inclusion of the male 'doll' Victor (Enver Gjokaj); outnumbered by his two female colleagues (Dushku and 'Sierra', played by Dichen Lachman), this sounds like the Token Guy, Dollhouse's own ogleable Angel, there to provide balance and backdrop to another Whedon exploration into the female psyche, the fascination - if not obsession - that threads his career. Guys will tune in for Dushku as they did for both her and Sarah-Michelle Gellar in Buffy, but Dollhouse is x-chromosome all down the line, from the evidence of the set-up.

Hey, sounds good to me.
