Erste Promobilder gibt's hier. Es ist Jagdzeit.

Joss Whedon über den Druck

Ein sehr nettes Interview drüben bei The TV Addict:

Let me just say, you look ridiculously tired. Would it be fair to say that this show has taken a lot out of you?

With DOLLHOUSE, I’ve worked hard to make it an ensemble piece among the writers and have an extraordinary staff. I haven’t been on set every second the way I used to, partially because I have a lot of directors that I know and partially because I don’t have time because we were sort of re-imagining the thing. But at the end of the day it says “Executive Producer: Me.” And if the product isn’t as good as we could have done, I’m going to have to live with that for the rest of my life. Those things don’t go away anymore.

The thing is that ultimately if I feel that I didn’t give it my best you know then I’m going to feel bad about it and I should whether or not the audience likes it or not. If the audience loves it and I feel like I could have done better, I’m going to be okay. If the audience hates it and I feel that I put every ounce into it that I could then I’m going to be okay. If they go. “this seems weak” and I agree with them, I’ll probably go into a coma state… I’m a writer…. really just a big neurotic guy.

Meldungsübersicht

Critical Studies in Dr. Horrible

Dr. Horrible's metatextuality is valuable in part simply because it is amusing; but it also serves to remind us of the production's indie nature and its status as internet creation, from the online comic book prequel to the many internet fan hommages (some of which are in the DVD). For the DVD's main feature, the viewer first sees the F.B.I. warning against copyright infringement—but this is replaced by an E.L.E. (Evil League of Evil) warning that 'This video disk is designated for Evil purposes only . . . '. (I suppose my Evil purpose is, in the words of a Joss Whedon commentary song, to 'pick, pick, pick it apart', so I am presumably safe from the penalties for Non-Evil usage.)

Edit: Sehr gut auch waxbanks' Kommentare dazu.

Will TV Slay Joss Whedon?

Nettes Interview mit Joss über Dollhouse und Dr. Horrible:

But you always hear about creators rolling their eyes at network suits, listing all the dumb notes they’ve been given.

There’s always going to be tension. If you’re smart, you use that tension to create something between their desire to sell and your desire to tell. And it’s very easy for me to get so far up in my own head that I forget to invite the audience in. And it’s very easy for them to boil things down and lose some of the texture.

And do I roll my eyes, sure. Every writer does. Do I think of them as my enemies? No, never. Because with the exception of Firefly, where I felt there was some stuff that was going on that was genuinely underhanded, I have always collaborated with the people who are paying for my show. The other thing you have to remember as the show runner is that the person who wears the suit and says the dumb thing that you laugh at, or the person who brings the coffee and says the dumb thing that you laugh at, might have a better idea than you. And if you ever forget that, you’re gonna blow it.

Questions of Identity and Ass-Kicking

Aber am besten ist die Überschrift: "Eliza Dushku's new show explores questions of identity and ass-kicking." :)

Neue Werbung

Zwar in miserabler Quali, aber dafür neue Szenen:

(Direktlink)

No a Rezi

Caroline, Besitzerin von whedonesque.org, rezensiert "Ghost":

I remember catching my first glimpse of Buffy on TV (it was the sixth episode of the series’ first season: ‘The Pack’) and feeling compelled to keep watching it, unable to flip to another channel. Like being drawn in by Bob Ross’s hypnotic voice.

Dollhouse didn’t do that, in fact, the first time I watched it I zoned out several minutes into the first act. I like Eliza Dushku a lot, after all she was my favourite slayer. In this first episode, I think she did ok as ‘Caroline’* and as the innocent doll ‘Echo’. She’s also fairly good as the brazen character she’s ‘imprinted’ with in the first few minutes, but I found her far less believable as the character she becomes next, when she’s hired to mediate between a kidnapper and the abductee’s father. In fact, she looked so awkward and miniscule in her skirt suit and specs, it took me right out of the story. And that’s when the supporting characters began to stand out - especially on second viewing.

Tahmoh Penikett, playing the FBI-agent Paul Ballard, is as strong as he is as Helo in Battlestar Galactica. Harry Lennix, who plays Echo’s ‘handler’, doesn’t get a lot to do in this first episode, but he could be interesting. Amy Acker - who I never liked as Fred in ‘Angel’ - does a lot with her bit part as the Dollhouse doctor and I immediately wanted to know more about her scar-faced character. The actress who stood out the most, though, is Dichen Lachman. She plays ‘Sierra’, another doll. We catch a few brief glimpses of her throughout the episode, before she makes a striking entrance right at the end of the show. Kick ass, not unlike like Jessica Alba in ‘Dark Angel’, but with more exotic features. I couldn’t help but wish she’d been cast as Echo.

Whedon’s shows are always about the ensemble, and it isn’t the first time the supporting actors do more for me than the lead. I never liked the character Buffy that much and it took a while for me to take to any of the cast of Firefly, which completely failed to grab me in the first few episodes. So while not exactly confident, I am hopeful the series will prove to be a grower and that Dushku will prove to be as big a talent as Whedon says she is.

A Rezi

Jemand, der "Josh Whedon" offenbar seit "always" kennt, rezensiert "Ghost" hier:

I didn't have the highest expectations going in -- the idea of house of programmable human "dolls" who go out and do things for their masters had me worried. But Dollhouse had great depth and richness not only of the adventure plot, but also of the character relationships. I guess I shouldn't be surprised as Whedon has always been good at this.

Klingt gut, und ist vor allem spoilerfrei.

"Joss Whedon’s 'Dollhouse' & The TV Audience"

It’s difficult to define Joss Whedon’s success. For one, gauging his popularity as a television writer, creator, and producer on ratings alone would render his career as one of the medium’s elite fairly worthless. Critical acclaim was always present, awards never were. Fan devotion always existed - but devotion alone could not save his shows from being tossed around from network to network, ultimately meeting their demise when show renewals were announced. For Whedon, something on television hasn’t quite clicked into place. Despite offering up some of the most intelligent, arch-driven story-lines, placed within painstakingly witty, sarcastic scripts, it’s almost as though the mass audience are allergic to his productions. On the verge of his latest effort on the small screen, Dollhouse, Whedon has a lot riding on the show’s run - including his accreditation as a creative mastermind.

Light FM

Light FM haben offenbar nen Song in Dollhouse untergebracht:

our song, "The High" on Joss Whedon's new show, "Dollhouse" on FOX February 27th. Tune in!

My theory? The Los Angeles-born “Chosen One,” Buffy Summers (played by Sarah Michelle Gellar), is secretly a member of the tribe. Though sidekick Willow Rosenberg is the official Jewess, Whedon’s gone on record saying that Kitty Pryde of X-Men comics, a tiny, brilliant, brown-haired teenager who fought monsters while wearing a Star of David, was his biggest influence in the creation of Buffy.

“She’s the prototypical ‘I-am young-andslightly-confused-and-different-from-everyone-else’ character and she’s my absolute archetypical role model and I met her when I was just the right age.”
